Link preview checker
Every time someone shares your link, the preview decides whether anyone clicks it. Enter a page to see how it shows up on WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Facebook, X and Google, and what to fix when it doesn’t.
The tags that matter
Open Graph, in short
- og:image
- The picture in the preview. Full https:// address, 1200×630, JPG or PNG, under 300 KB.
- og:title
- The headline. Under about 60 characters, and it can be punchier than your SEO title.
- og:description
- One or two sentences under the headline. Most apps show about the first 150 characters.
- og:url and og:site_name
- The page’s canonical address and your brand name, so shares are counted together and labelled properly.
- twitter:card
- Set to summary_large_image for the big image card on X. X reads the og: tags for everything else.
Questions
About link previews
Why does my link show no image on WhatsApp?
Usually one of four things: there is no og:image tag, the image address is relative instead of a full https:// link, the image is too large (WhatsApp often skips images over about 300 KB), or it is an SVG. This checker tests all four.
I fixed my tags but the old preview still shows. Why?
Apps cache previews, often for days. For Facebook, use the Sharing Debugger and click “Scrape again”; for LinkedIn, the Post Inspector. WhatsApp has no refresh tool, but adding something like ?v=2 to the link makes it fetch a fresh preview.
What size should a share image be?
1200×630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio), as a JPG or PNG under 300 KB. Keep text and logos away from the edges, because some apps crop the sides or show it as a square.
Are these previews exact?
They are close approximations built from the same tags each platform reads. Apps change their layouts from time to time, so treat them as a guide to what is missing, not a pixel-perfect copy.
