Broken link checker
Pages get renamed, partners close down, images get deleted. Enter your site and we’ll crawl it, check every link and image, and tell you exactly which page each broken one is on.
What it finds
Three kinds of problem
- Broken
- Pages that return 404 (not found) or 410 (removed), server errors, dead domains and invalid SSL certificates.
- Couldn’t verify
- Sites that blocked our check. Usually fine; worth a manual look.
- Internal redirects
- Your own links that bounce through a redirect. They work, but each one adds a delay on mobile.
Questions
About broken links
Do broken links hurt SEO?
A few won’t sink a site, but they waste the crawl time Google gives you, leak the value of links pointing at missing pages, and tell visitors the site isn’t looked after. Broken internal links are the ones to fix first, because they are entirely in your control.
Why are some links marked “couldn’t verify”?
Sites like LinkedIn, Instagram and many shops block automated checks and answer with an error code even when the page exists. We list them separately so you can open them yourself rather than chase false alarms.
How many pages does it check?
Up to 25 pages of your site and 250 links, starting from the address you enter and following your own links. That covers most small business sites completely. For larger sites, ask us for a full crawl.
How do I fix a broken link?
Update the link to the right address, or remove it. If the broken address is one of your own old pages that other sites still link to, set up a 301 redirect from it to the closest live page instead.
Will this slow down my website?
No. It makes a few hundred ordinary requests over about 40 seconds, a small fraction of what a single search engine crawler does every day.
Tell us what you’re building
Thirty minutes is usually enough to tell you what it will take, roughly how long, and whether we are the right people for it. If we are not, we will say so.
